A Kick in the Asset.

By Jim Conley • Nov 30th, 2007 • Category: Brookline Selectmen, Brookline Town Government, St. Aidan's

Now you’d suppose - after having $6 million in public funds thrown at them allegedly to build affordable housing at the former St. Aidan’s Church - that the Boston Archdiocese wouldn’t repeat the mistake it made at its Rollins Square Project in Boston.
You know, the mistake that let people who had plenty of assets (off [...]

Let’s Get It on Film (2).

By Jim Conley • Nov 30th, 2007 • Category: Brookline Selectmen, Brookline Town Government, The Allen Files

A special thanks to those who have answered the call for donations as we attempt to add a video component to On Brookline. The idea is to begin broadcasting segments of the Brookline Selectmen’s meetings (with commentary) to broaden awareness for the arrogance and ineptitude of of our so-called executive branch, as it unfolds.
Of [...]

Faith Trumps Reason.

By Jim Conley • Nov 29th, 2007 • Category: Brookline Selectmen, Brookline Town Government, St. Aidan's, The Allen Files

The TAB’s Jessica Scarpati reports on Tuesday’s Brookline Selectmen’s meeting that sees the Brookline Assessor’s Office pegging local residential property values as down by three percent for the year.
But during the same meeting, and while approving an extension on the $6 million in gifts loans to the Boston Archdiocese for its St. Aidan’s project, [...]

Great Moments in Megolomania (2).

By Jim Conley • Nov 28th, 2007 • Category: BPD of Counsel, Brawl at Town Hall, Brookline Politics, Brookline Town Government

Forget that I said it’s time we started hearing from our local lights on civil liberties with respect to May’s Brawl at Town Hall. Tomorrow’s TAB features the rambling incoherence a column from Brookline PAX co-chair and self-proclaimed local civil rights leader Martin Rosenthal [try to read the column by clicking here].
Thank God [...]

Fire Up the Fax.

By Jim Conley • Nov 28th, 2007 • Category: Brookline Selectmen, Brookline Town Government

It never occurred to me that the State Ethics Commission has enforcement authority over crony hiring in government, as this Globe story points out.
Time to get busy.

Let’s Get It on Film.

By Jim Conley • Nov 27th, 2007 • Category: Brookline Selectmen, The Allen Files

I’m making a call for donations so that I can purchase video equipment that will allow me to broadcast segments from the weekly Brookline Selectmen’s meetings.
For instance, residents need to view the stunning arrogance of Town Treasurer Stephen Cirillo, Children’s Hospital Vice President Charles Weinstein and Selectman Robert “The Mensch” Allen as board member Gil [...]

More Outrageous Behavior (4).

By Jim Conley • Nov 27th, 2007 • Category: Brookline Selectmen, Brookline Town Government, St. Aidan's, The Allen Files

This evening, when the Brookline Selectmen extend the closing date of loans to the Boston Archdiocese for their housing project at the former St. Aidan’s Church, they’ll likely rely on a recommendation to proceed from Brookline Planning Director Jeff Levine.
Click here to read Levine’s memo to Selectmen Nancy Daly and Robert “The Mensch” Allen declaring [...]

St. Aidan’s Asbestos Challenge (2).

By Jim Conley • Nov 27th, 2007 • Category: Asbestos, Brookline Selectmen, Brookline Town Government, St. Aidan's

I’ve yet to find any takers for my proposal to bring the proponents of the St. Aidan’s project on-site while the rectory building is being demolished using the “wet method” of asbestos abatement.
No doubt, the reason for this has to be that they know how the last (alleged*) round of asbestos abatement in the church [...]

More Outrageous Behavior (3).

By Jim Conley • Nov 26th, 2007 • Category: Brookline Town Government, St. Aidan's

Six more months of waste in Brookline’s Affordable Housing Trust Fund? It would appear so, given that the Brookline Selectmen list on tomorrow’s meeting agenda an extension of the loans it has made to the Boston Archdiocese for their joint housing project at the former St. Aidan’s Church.
Hell, you can extend the loans into [...]

Capital Planning Weirdness.

By Jim Conley • Nov 26th, 2007 • Category: Brookline Schools, Brookline Town Government

The Town of Brookline has released a capital spending plan that is just plain weird.
The plan [view it here], cuts capital spending by half (over 2008), allowing only $4 million in bond floats. Where things get really weird is in the total allocated for projects using property tax revenue - $6.6 million.
Town managers and [...]
