Here’s the decision by the Brookline Zoning Board of Appeals regarding property at One Somerset Road [click here to read]. The May 24th hearing referred to in the decision led to Board member Lawrence Kaplan popping off on a 5-foot grandmother.
Read the decision and see if you don’t agree that Brookline is a banana republic in all but climate.

The ZBA decision(s) does not refer to the Town Hall Brawl at all, which suggests a silent mea culpa on the part of the ZBA members and Town Counsel that the public hearing was not disrupted. Perhaps the “investigation” is now complete and public records can be released.
The decision(s) seems to flow like a transcript, without quotes, of what transpired at the hearing and the rehearing. But the mystery may be what transpired in between: Who said (or Emailed) what and to whom? Town Counsel was wearing many fedoras what with her representation of multiple clients. (Careful with the hat pins!)
I assume that the proceedings were recorded and a transcript prepared. Some hardy soul might wish to review the decision(s) and the transcript side by side. Perhaps this may serve as the model for producing ZBA decisions in the future.
Brookline as a “Banana Republic” is not very appealing. If the Farmers’ Market rent increase had forced the farmers to abandon Brookline, we might be singing “Yes, we have no bananas ….” But the Bozos would still be running the Town. Low comedy may be slipping on a banana peel but too many prat-falls suggest the need for a new schtick this coming May.
