Mermell to Run on the Crony Ticket.

I don’t get it. In reporting that Library Trustee Jesse Mermell’s candidacy for Selectman, our local scribes at the TAB and Globe lead with some variation of “it’s official, she’s running.”

This - along with the nonsense ginned up by an alleged magazine (see previous post) - would seem to indicate that Brookline residents are on the edge of their electoral seats awaiting word from the third place finisher in last year’s race.  Yikes.

And what is the Mermell movement built around? Seems to me it’s more cronyism. Indeed, a vote for Mermell is a vote to extend the tenure of Brookline Selectmen’s Chairman Robert L. Allen, Jr.

Says Allen (via the Mermell Web site):

“I am looking forward to having Jesse join the Board of Selectmen…she has a proven ability to work with people of diverse perspectives and backgrounds, as evidenced by the broad base of support for her candidacy.”

I’ll bet he is looking forward to her joining the Board. And so too, judging from Mermell’s early endorsers, are the Allen cronies that are busy spiraling Brookline into decline.
