We still don’t know why Gil Hoy resigned his chairmanship of the Brookline Selectmen earlier this year (and On Brookline doesn’t much care). What we do know is that two of our so-called professional town administrators did all they could to smear the guy.
When Hoy announced his resignation, Town Administrator Richard Kelliher and Police Chief Daniel O’Leary announced “police contact in Boston” on Hoy’s part. No charges or police incident reports exist to prove the suggestions made by Kelliher and O’Leary (despite O’Leary saying he had conducted an informal investigation).
And at a time of escalating crime in Brookline, it’s no small matter that our local law enforcement is conducting clandestine investigations into a member of the town’s “executive branch.”

The ghost of J. Edgar Hoover haunts our Muddy River community.
J. Edgar Hoover had dossiers on many politicians that assured him of being FBI Director for life. Of course it was in J. Edgar’s afterlife that his cross-dressing was openly revealed. So perhaps some of the politicians had their own dossiers on J. Edgar for their protection from him. Washington, D.C., it turns out, was/is a small town. Now as for our Muddy River community, a few more whistleblowers may level the political playing field and entertain us at the same time.
