The black object you see to the right of Selectman Robert Allen is the empty chair of Brookline Selectman Jesse Mermell, who instead of hearing more on the treatment an African American resident endured at the hands of Brookline Police chose instead to politic in New Hampshire for Hillary Clinton.

I’m not kidding.

Remember when it was “Jesse’s turn” and how Jesse was going to be laser-focused on Brookline affairs? Perhaps those who told us that - like Mermell herself - can explain the photo above.

  1. Tonight the selectmen shamed themselves, and as our elected leaders they brought shame upon all of Brookline. Not only did chairman Nancy Daly refuse to allow the public to speak at the meeting about this matter, but after almost everyone left the room, selectmen Bobby Allen announced that public comment “doesn’t sit well with [him]” and he wants to curtail public comment at future meetings too. These selectmen are hurting the reputation of our town. Long after their 3-year terms are over, the tarnish will endure.
