The Education Lt. Governor?

By Jim Conley • July 28th, 2006 • Email This Post to a FriendPrint This Post Print This PostEmail this author

class.jpegIt seems Deborah Goldberg, a former Chair of the Brookline Board of Selectmen, has repositioned herself as the education candidate in the race for Massachusetts Lt. Governor.

What the…?

Is this the same Deborah Goldberg who presided over a Board that gave as much in capital funds for a school renovation ($15 million less than asked for) as they did a golf course? The same Deborah Goldberg who was Board Chair when the Town eliminated social worker positions in the schools but expanded the waste-of-money known as the Brookline Department of Economic Development?

Is this the same Goldberg who chaired a Board in a town with one of the highest per capita valuations in the Commonwealth (nearly $10 billion), but per pupil spending ranked in the low thirties among Massachusetts communities? And a town that says it can’t afford to give its teachers dental insurance?

Well, at least the rest of Massachusetts gets to see the Chumpville approach up close. Brookline pols view voters as chumps that will believe - and buy - anything.

So, that means when Goldberg’s mining for Democratic votes, she bills herself as a product of the Brookline Public Schools (BHS Class of 1971). But that won’t do when it comes to the Society pages. In a 1978 wedding announcement, Goldberg says she attended the very private Beaver Country Day School.

Resisting all temptation to use the word Rube…

  1. Lets be fair…Debbie had little to do with the performance in the Brookline Students , she was more interested in approving every costly renovation of
the school buildings ..many to make work and continue failed projects.
Debbie did not instruct her Board or any Departments at Town Hall ,how to help flood victims when the rain torrents crossed into the sewers and backed up into their cellars.(She sat mute at neighborhood meetings where FEMA offered residents cleanup money)…but she did get Traffic Lights installed
in front of her grandaddy’s corporation, Stop and Shop on Harvard Street. ..
She cant be all bad …say her friends she hired to run the Brookline Department of Economic Development..(never a viable think tank)….No sucess story there ! Well…lets wish her all the best shes young yet.
, after all its not easy to know what real people are suffering when your a poor little rich girl…
Frankly. I would have given her some lee-way…if I knew how rich she was ,

Presently,.. after paying my house tax,
Im forced to buy Stop & Shop dented can goods and old bread just to live here in ‘river city’.
    See ya around Chumpville Debbie….
