As voters go to the polls today, it’s not too early to put up the first postscript to the recent campaign for Brookline Selectman — everything is on the table.
With the hit job on Gil Hoy appearing in Thursday’s TAB; and with that serving as the reason for their endorsement of Nancy with an Asterisk Daly, I can’t imagine any measure of restraint during the next election.
And the timing couldn’t be worse for our favorite selectman.
Update: And should today’s override pass, those up for re-election will have to answer why they pushed for an override which actually made the Town’s financial condition worse. And that’s not an opinion, it was a point made in the minority report of the Override Study Committee. But that was dismissed by town government because these two members actually know something about finance. (Other members were appointed based on their ties to town government, and/or their skill at Sudoku.)
Update (2): I’m hearing reports of confusion at the polls. Seems that some voters expect to see an asterisk next to Nancy Daly’s name and are asking voting officials for a corrected ballot.
Update (3): Recent visitors may be confused by the references to the asterisk and Selectman Nancy. Here it is in a nutshell. On Thursday, the Brookline TAB (a Gatehouse Media publication) ran a front page story on Selectman Gil Hoy (which I’m providing to my colleagues in journalism as a candidate for worst ever). The story says that Gil Hoy flashed his police commissioner’s badge during a traffic stop (a fixation of the TAB’s). Who provides the proof that this show of the shield went down? Daly and her campaign co-chairs Selectmen Bobby Allen and Jesse Mermell.
The TAB then says that questions surrounding Hoy’s traffic stop have led them to endorse Daly over him. But they were endorsing Daly “with an asterisk”, because Hoy is clearly the better candidate.
Folks, there’s a reason that paper is offered to you for free.
