The most dangerous place to stand tonight is near the exits of the Brookline High School Auditorium when Article 31 is called. You’re likely to be trampled by the self righteous liberals (i.e., Brookline PAX) as they rush out of town meeting.
The Article is merely a resolution urging another look into the police investigation conducted in response to last May’s Brawl at Town Hall and Brookline PD’s handling of Arthur Conquest.
But now that Conquest has tried to get some justice outside of Brookline (by filing a complaint with the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination), the Selectmen and Advisory Committee want the matter postponed.
To be fair, it’s not like it’s a question of how many parking spaces ought to be alloted a building project. That’s really serious stuff.
This is only about a black resident alleging mistreatment by police (as corroborated by several witnesses) and outright obstruction by the Town Administration in hearing his grievance.
See, Conquest’s mistake is that he let the police abuse occur in Brookline. If the resolution focused on telling another municipality or local government to give him some justice, there’d be a vote alright.
