The Seventy Percent Solution.

Given that 70% of Brookline voters casting a vote in yesterday’s Democratic Primary did so for Deval Patrick, we can assume they agree with him when he says:
“Voters said no to the inside deals and mediocre performance of our current administration; and yes to accountability, candor and leadership.”
Is it possible that Brookline Selectmen Bobby Allen, Michael Merrill, Nancy Daly and Gil Hoy might say yes to this as well? Hope springs eternal.
Update: Archie has a question in the comments below.
It seems Deb Goldberg’s supporters are pinning her failure to score a majority from voters in Brookline (when you add blanks and write-ins) on Andrea Silbert’s hometown ties and the TAB endorsement of Silbert. I don’t know what proof they have that the Silbert votes would have gone to Goldberg, especially when it appears that Deval Patrick surrogates were doing all they could to get Murray on the ballot…out of fear, I believe, of Goldberg getting on.
Anyway, why would we expect the Scream Team to be humbled by defeat?

I am waiting for the cities/towns voting results for the Lt. Gov. race to focus on Worcester, Newton, Boston, Cambridge, Somerville voting to determine how well our hometown gal fared relative to Murray in his homecity and certain key communities surrounding Brookline. Some of Debbie’s supporters seem to be suggesting that if former Brookline hometowner Silbert had not been in the race (and if the TAB had not supported her), then the vote for Debbie in Brookline would have been overwhelming. Your analysis?
I’m not surprised to hear that. I’d point out that her most visible supporter in Brookline was Selectman’s Chair Bobby Allen, who won only two precincts in his latest bid for re-election.
Goldberg failed to score a majority from voters (when you add the blanks and write ins) in Brookline. What makes them think the Silbert voters would have gone with her? The last two days of the race saw Deval Patrick surrogates doing all they could to get Murray on the ticket…out of, I believe, a fear of Goldberg getting on.
I doubt that the TAB endorsement made much of a difference in Brookline, but it made a huge difference outside of Brookline. By the same logic, Stanley Spiegel vouching for her “impeccable character” got her more votes than she might otherwise.
Murray won Worcester by a 10-1 margin. He’s quite popular there.
But, ultimately, it’s just like Goldberg and her supporters to try and fabricate a victory from a loss. That’s what sunk her candidacy…one contrivance after another.
