Brookline’s Whistleblower Policy

A basic tenet of good government is the protection of whistleblowers. To that end, most states offer public service employees safeguards from retribution should they choose to report instances of fraud and corruption. The protections are required because once that whistle is blown, life can be most unpleasant for the employee serving the public interest.

In this series by (the very good friend of On Brookline) Archie (Arshag) Mazmanian takes on the Town’s feeble whistleblower policy. The policy was 13 years in the making, and probably would have been delayed longer than that were it not for Archie asking whether one existed.

It’s a series that says a lot about the way Brookline Town Government operates, particulalrly when it comes to speaking out on behalf of taxpayers.
