You Get to Guess Who Will Serve.

This is strange.  The Brookline Selectmen have posted their meeting agenda for Tuesday, and it says that they are going to take up the question of “adopting a charge and appointing” their sham panel of experts to review citizen complaints against the police department.

Hmmm.  A couple of Tuesdays ago, I’m pretty sure I heard the selectmen say that the panel members would need to be interviewed at their February 5th session.  But they list no names of those being interviewed and/or appointed in their published agenda for Tuesday.

Maybe they’re running a contest and the person who guesses the right names and number of panelists wins an iPod.

  1. The Selectmen’s Calendar item (4) immediately preceding the review committee item (5) reads:

    “BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS

The following candidates for appointments to boards and commissions will appear for interviews: ”

But no names follow the colon.

So perhaps this is another “OOPS!” moment for whoever put together the Selectmen’s Calendar. Now who might they be? And how does the Calendar inform us? Perhaps the Selectmen are adopting TV “teases” to lure a larger number of cable viewers. When nothing follows the colon, what are we to think?

  2. Sounds like an honest mistake to me. Could happen anytime.

  3. Yes, nobody’s prefect. But shooting blanks after the colon is not a meer spielling errer. (Sic, sic, sic, sic and sick!)

  4. My experience with these selectmen is that apparent errors are usually deliberate. They have exhausted reasonable trust.
