Who is Gilberto Hoi and why is he sending me messages like this one concerning the Farmer’s Market debacle:
“Your writing on this was both irresponsible and baseless. As you surely must now know, the Town never had any inclination whatsoever [emphasis added] to do what I understand that you printed as fact.
I also understand that you even wrote that the Selectmen had already approved the increase. Most importantly, you needlessly upset a number of people in the process.”
I guess it depends on how you define “never had any inclination whatsoever.”
I don’t know what’s baseless in saying that the Town’s liaison to the Market, Marge Amster, wrote a memo saying that the fee needed to be increased because the Market was not paying full rent (the $14K thousand).
Seems to me it’s rather baseless to say, as Hoy did, that this was all “a rumor” (even though Amster’s memo outlined all of these things). And even though the Selectmen received Amster’s memo and signed on to its content. Then again, Hoy is usually the last to know what’s going on at Town Hall.
Pushing a $14 thousand contract on local growers is hardly out of character for these selectmen. For God’s sake, they made Deputy Town Administrator Sean Cronin shake down the Walnut Hills Cemetery for an extra $25 thousand [see previous post].
Folks, let’s be clear on what Hoy means when he says, “(On Brookline) upset a number of people in the process.” It means that Hoy and the other selectmen were inundated by concerned residents. They screwed up…and instead of attending to the oversight responsibilities for which he was elected, Gilberto wants to shoot the messenger.
Under the circumstances, I can see why he needs to use an alias.
