Idiocracy.

I’ve held off on mentioning this until now, because I didn’t trust that I heard things right last night. But at the end of last night’s hearing on the Brawl at Town Hall, Selectmen’s Chair Nancy Daly moved to “dismiss the [Conquest] appeal but proposed hearing from Mr. Conquest and [Brookline Police] Chief O’Leary on January 8th…when they can both make their points in public.”
What the…?
Even by Daly standards, this has to be one of the most idiotic proposals ever made (probably the brainchild of Town Administrator Richard Kelliher).
Let’s see, Conquest was not allowed to plead his case when the matter of his appeal was heard - though the police were allowed to plead theirs - and he loses. So the consolation is that he gets to come tell the board who dismissed his appeal the reasons why they should have allowed it. Who in their right mind would agree to that? Not Conquest, from what I can tell.
Ah, the idiocracy that is Brookline town government.

Gee, this is like Moot Court before the Selectmen, which has as a body proven once again that it is moot for all practical purposes. I wonder if the Chief and Conquest would be graded or whether they could in turn grade the Selectmen. Perhaps in Chair Daly’s sharp legal mind, this constitutes “DooDoo Process” for Conquest. Personally, I think Chair Daly has guilt pangs from having her strings pulled.
I think the time is fast approaching for a “Peyton Place” type novel (wih more fact than fiction) on the Board’s and other Town officials’ antics over the past few years. The Chapter on the Town Hall Brawl could be titled “All In The Family” with all the familial relationships that have surfaced so far.
