Raze the Red Flag.

Those preparing to watch the Boston Archdiocese and the Town of Brookline tear down one of Brookline’s oldest buildings — the rectory at St. Aidan’s — will have to wait awhile.  The demolition is not a go for this week after all.

See, there’s this requirement that demolishers tell environmental agencies how they plan to protect people from the lead and asbestos kicked up during a razing; and the contractor at St. Aidan’s hasn’t done that yet.

And folks, though the Archdiocese is known to say otherwise, there is a fair amount of nasty material left on and in the rectory.  Let’s use this period to test the leadership capacity of our health department (led by a nutritionist) and to see whether they are capable of protecting residents in this heavily populated area.

I’m not optimistic.  They seem to miss all the red flags.
