This site has been hard on the Brookline Economic Development Advisory Board, but it’s time to give credit where credit’s due. A significant milestone in Brookline’s commercial history occurred several months ago and we let it pass without notice.
I, of course, speak of EDAB’s support in landing a Sleepy’s mattress store to Coolidge Corner. If you wonder why we shell out $500 thousand in taxpayer largesse to fund a Brookline Department of Economic Development, you need to visit Sleepy’s on Beacon Street. I’m guessing they employ three “mattress professionals” out of that store alone.
Before the Coolidge Corner store, you’d have to drive 5 miles to visit a Sleepy’s. Now you can walk to one. That’s the vision we expect from our economic development team.
And damned if they disappoint.

EDAB should now get to work on bringing Snow White and the other six Dwarfs to Coolidge Corner to fill up other empty stores.
With Sleepy’s here, perhaps we can find out the “sleep numbers” of our Selectmen. The clock is “ticking” towards next May for those up for reelection.
It has been pointed out to me that several of the other six Dwarfs may be serving in Town government. Let’s see ….
