No Police Records Forthcoming.

Prior to filing a Court action to secure police records from May’s Brawl at Town Hall, I heard from the Massachusetts Public Records Division saying that they had taken up my appeal of the Town’s withholding of the incident reports.

In a letter received today, I’ve been advised that it is the opinion of the Division that Brookline Police Chief Daniel O’Leary can withhold the reports from public inspection [see the opinion here].

O’Leary and the Town’s lawyers (paid by the property tax but in service to hacks) claim that releasing the reports will interfere with the Department’s internal investigation into allegations of racial bias stemming from the incident.  Maybe when the investigation is complete, we’ll get to see them.

Folks, this is the product of a highly politicized police department.  A Chief who is capable of smearing one of five Brookline’s police commissioners (a selectman) is capable of anything in service to the less ethical elements of town government.  Anyone who is paying attention knows why O’Leary doesn’t want to release the reports.

I will guarantee readers this - as long as Richard Kelliher is Town Administrator and as long as Daniel O’Leary is police chief and as long as a certain dullard remains on the Brookline Board of Selectmen, that internal investigation will never come to an end.

And who’s going to make them wrap it up? Brookline Town Meeting?  That’s like thinking the Republicans in Congress will stand up to the White House.

We really are screwed.
